No More Points As Of Today January 9 ,2023

Coins | Mike

Hi every one. Well we asked and the ANA agreed that we collect coins not points. This to me is an historic day. For years points were causing  bad blogs and contest. That's how we were ranked. No more . As I said in that blog we are all equal. No one is first or second.

This did not happen overnight. The A.N.A. had there reason for them. And take my word it probably worked great in the beginning. It was to get collectors to get active and participate. To write blogs and add to there collections.

After a while this changed. A person was  following over 6500  other collectors I did not make that up. I will not put his number here. The abuse had started. Some complaints were filed. But they still believed in it. Then at some point no pun intended that changed. It was no longer a site of blogs but a site of who's first.
I had called the A.N.A and discussed it with a friend. He agreed but at that time years ago it wasn't going to happen. This game of catch me if you can started a series of low quality blogs. Wrong information and people stopped writing them. Abuse of the site was starting. And the site was on the wrong road.

Now that's all behind us and I want to thank the A.NA for there cooperation!. It was great that we could voice our opinion and they would listen. Im thrilled that's its over. Now I hope those who left because of the point game come back and share there knowledge of this great hobby!

I myself will start writing again. Its been a while for me and I have been eager to get back to one or two a week. I think that would be a good number. One a week with all the active bloggers would be great.Better quality blogs and more than that learning again. Im still learning after thirty years. I enjoy reading them and the comments.

So today we start a new site. One were all are equal! We are collector's with a passion for this hobby. Lets make it the best site. One the A.N.A and us can be proud of!! Again I thank all of us who voiced our opinion. And again thank the A.N.A  for working with us. There is no better place!. Good luck to all!!Mike

Hi Everyone, I am also new to this site and Mikes post Is the first I read. I had a pop up inform me that the point system would not be used anymore. So, I don't know the story behind this however just by your post it sounds like an amazing transformation with the supported comments. We are all equal done it for me! So fine job ! Just to let everyone know I again I am new as of today. I am 59 never done to much for myself, always others first, so now I am taking the leap and trying to learn about coins. It's so much to learn and I am still learning the lingo. I am sure it will come through others knowledge and my reading. I have so many coins even back to 1800's I really enjoy the Morgans, the peace dollars, dimes, pennies. I guess you could say they all are fascinating, I see them in a whole new light. VAM world is a big world for sure. So please excuse my ignorance when I ask questions. I am here to learn. I hope my participation is welcomed from all levels of your knowledge.

Points do not help you learn. Reading the blogs do and if you have comments of note or questions those can be submitted.

I suspect the original intention of awarding points was to incentivize folks to blog more frequently but since there was never any prize or award for point gathering it became more of a mill stone than an incentive. I like the new system, now we can see quality rather than quantity as the gold standard. Thank You ANA for listening and Thank You Mike for your persistence. It's telling that the man with the most points led the charge to eliminate them, that is a sign of character in my mind.

The points tell how much you’ve achieved and done so other collectors and see by looking at the points instead of looking at everything you’ve done.. Well if they reward coins instead I’m happy

I kept telling collector's you can have 300,000 points you get nothing. We don't need incentive to write a blog. Its part of the ethics. We come here to share our knowledge of coins with other collector s. That's what we do. Thanks for your comment!!

Maybe they should reward us with free coins instead of points!

Keeps it simple, and hopefully keeps those who want to share quality information a part of the group.

Once someone explained that points didn't matter, I just never paid any attention to them one way or the other. I'm not sure whether this will decrease poorly written blogs or not, but time will tell. Guess we will never know about causation, but we can certainly identify a correlation... statistically speaking of course....

No More Points!

Never paid much attention to the point but got tired of the swarms of poorly written blogs. Thanks for a well written, thoughtfully prepared piece.

I never really understood the point behind them. It got to the point where good blogs were being buried by a bunch of nonsense ones. Good mover for all.
