W Quarter Found-Hunt Update #1
Hunt Update #1
Hey fellow YNs and ANA members,
This blog today may be my shortest to date, but it has a lot of info(if you know me, you know I hate short, trying-to-earn-points blogs). First of all, I will be doing these updates after each hunt I do, so stay alert for new updates. Second of all, @CoinHunter and @thatcoinguy post 'update blogs', so after cutting my blogs/month to 2, I decided to add another. So recently I have searched about 30 rolls of quarters(not counting the $1000 in quarters which I searched throug and found six Ws). Quarters are of little to no value, besides $0.25. Why I say this is because 99.9 percent of quarters are common. The other 0.1% are the possibly good coins you may find. Recently, there are Ws, silver quarters can still be found, and the Wisconsin State error is the other notable coin. But if you take out that, you have a pretty dull series. Bicentennial are nice, specific States are cool, and the ATBs have popular designs. Well, we collectors love finding hard-to-find rarities like the ones I mentioned. Also, Ws are flying out of circulation, so that's another reason we search through quarters. But in late February, I decided to search the center console of a car which had recently gone half-cross-country. A news report states that "W quarters were mixed in with P and D quarters on their trip to the Federal Reserve". They hit the banks still mixed in, then they hit local businesses. But in places like NYC, these coins were used a lot and Ws were picked out of circulation by the many collectors that reside their. In less visited towns and cities, you can imagine many are still circulating. So a trip half-cross-country might come up with a few. That was the introduction. Once I started looking at the change, I saw what I thought was a W(sometimes I imagine a mintmark which isn't actually on the coin). After looking closely at it, I found it was a W(a 2019-W WIP). This is exciting because it is the first W I was able to keep(I did not keep the six I found at my Grandfather's home), which is really great. Well, I think I'll wrap this up by saying that my next blog will be after my next hunt. Thanks for reading,

Great blog NY friend. As I have said before value is not everything. I own some beautiful coins. I enjoy looking at them. You will to. Thanks for the kind words while I was away. And the comment on my blog. Keep it going.

What I find the most interesting is your take on the Washington Quarter as a series. Very important. Personally, I like the overall design in both silver and clad versions. It is only a matter of time before they get the recognition so deserving. So again, your input is greatly valued within the collecting community.

The design is good, but they are not worth that much recently.

Nice find. Always a good day when a W shows up. I disagree with you, however, that the Washington Quarters is mainly a dull series. I have found that errors/varieties are very common in this series, and that is the main reason I hunt the quarters.

Minor errors are really not my thing. I prefer the hard-to-find Ws and silver quarters. Common errors aren't worth that much either.

This is an excellent blog. It's nice to read about a hunt like I have. Search a bunch and find one or two coin keepers. Good job. Never give up. I found a 2015 D Roosevelt dime in Coin Star today. Had a nick in it and all kinds of damage. Not a keeper but I'll take it. Carry on.

Yeah, I have been checking my local Coinstar rejects. I hope to find a few things.

When hunting never go to the same bank twice, spend less so you keep on searching more. You'll find what you seek in many other places. Never fish on the same spot, move and you'll get what you want. My advise.

Thanks for the advice. I try to vary in the places I visit like you said.
