Morgan Dollars
This is the history of the Morgan dollar. The Morgan dollar was made in 1878 at the Philadelphia mint. They were designed by George T. Morgan, hence the name. I believe that these coins are definitely the first coins sought out by beginners and experienced alike. I have 1921, 1893, and 1889 Mogan dollars. This coin is also very different from others, for example, it has the quote In God We Trust on the reverse and not the obverse. The eagle on the reverse is very strange and that is why the coin is nicknamed the buzzard coin. The lady on the coin also is not the usual lady liberty. In fact, somebody used to be the face of the dollar. Later, this same person was thrown in jail for being portrayed. There is so much more about the Morgan dollar which I will do later. Thank you!

Roger Burdette wrote a book about the young Philadelphia School Teacher pictured on the Morgan Dollar. Well worth a read.

There is a book by Karen Lee its called the Sketchbook of GeorgeT.Morgan I suggest you read it. Its very reasonable. About 35.00.

There are entire books written about "the lady on the Morgan". She lost her job as a teacher. I don't think she went to jail. Where did you get that or any if this? Thanks.

Good subject, and good blog. Actually, the Morgan dollar (Also known as the “Liberty Head dollar.) has been the most widely collected US coin worldwide for quite some time. And you’re right, there is a lot more about the Morgan dollar. I have another short bit of history on them coming soon.

Anne Williams was a teacher. She didn't want to do it but did. She passed away in her 60's after a stroke. .

Kindly give a bibliography. Were you got your information! I have been collecting 30 years never herd that. In God we Trust was first on the two cent piece and many coins have it on the reverse
