1881 US 3 Cent Nickel
Named too the three-cent-piece.
The famous but shortlived three cent nickel was produced from 1865 to 1889. The US was in the midst of an economical and political new organization as a whole Nation.
Designed and engraved by reknown James Barton Longacre, the coin was issued in silver and in Copper-nickel alloy. The one I present here is from the 1881 version.
This specific year, the quantity minted was not that high, making this nice coin more attractive and scarce within collectors. President James Garfield was succeeded by Chester Arthur after only six months at the White House. The government structures of the Nation were changing to foresee the consolidation of the borders and a more wholesome participación of all the political factions into stable visionary parties.
In my own words.

Two cent and three cent pieces are intriguing due to their short life span as circulating currency. Not something I’ve personally found interest in collecting, but seeing these pieces and learning it’s history is still cool.
