1944 France 2 Francs note, American Military Government
On August 25, 1944 the French 2nd Armored Division and the US 2nd Artillery Division were able to retake the outskirts of the City of Paris. Though they both faced German resistance the operation was a total success. Paris was Nazi free for the first time in almost four years.
The banknote I show was issued under Military Allied Forces cooperation with the established French government around late August 1944.
The blue 2 Francs note was US printed but French issued. It should remain as a symbol of cooperation and brotherly success among friendly liberating nations.
Most of these type of notes came to USA in the hands of returning soldiers. Some remained in many European hands as well as historians and many curious collectors.
In my own words.
