1972 Costa Rica 50 Céntimos Coin
| AC coin$
Beautiful Costa Rica issued this nice 50 céntimos coin a little over fifty years ago. The currency of this gorgeous Central American Republic is called the "Colón" honoring the Discoverer of America Christopher Columbus (Cristóbal Colón.)
The Colón was introduced in Costa Rica in 1896 officially by the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR in Spanish) which was organized and founded as a financial institution in 1858.
The nice coin presents the National Coat of Arms which brings the situation of the Republic located between two main oceans: the Pacific and the Atlantic, and so gives within features of the land of three extinct volcanoes and heraldry tied to Spain, this all on the coin's obverse.
The coin's reverse brings the denomination at center with the issuing institution at the bottom border, together with the location of the Republic plus the year of issue.
In my own words.
