1979-S Roosevelt Dime

Coins-United States | AC coin$

AC's Secrets #24

With a 'deep cameo' technique or finish, this excellent Roosevelt dime is a shiny star to have within my certified acquisitions.

This Type 1 PR70 graded dime struck in San Francisco has a peculiar filled "S" mint mark quite noticeable once you look closer to the coin. The type 2 version has a regular minted or engraved S for its mint mark.

It is rather interesting to verify and observe changes and features that move appart from the ordinary when it comes to specific coins and well detailed in rather small coinage.

Enjoy this beautifully minted dime part of my expansive US currency collection.
In my own words.

Nice difference. I have the Jefferson Nickels of both types.

Thanks for yourcomment. I still wonder about many details of coinage that escape our eyes.

There was type 1 in 1979 and type 2 in 1980. Type one means the proof set all the coinage has the S filled in Type two the following year they were clear. I don't know why the type two cost more.

Thanks Mike. Wondering if type two would be a sharper and perhaps bolder minting technique. Just my idea. The filled S is still interesting though.
