Type Set Latest Addition

Coins | Doug S.

Hi all. This is the latest addition to the type set .  Barber Half 1892 O with a mintage of 390,000. In my opinion it has great eye appeal with very subtle perimeter toning, it is very well struck as well. Opinions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks Doug

PS:

My photos do not upload with the quality that my camera produces...anyone else have that issue??

Really nice coin. I have that problem with the photos. I usually use my laptop to take pics. Your pictures are UHD compared to mine!

Wow! Great year and mint mark, and the condition is remarkable. I love seeing barbers that have a good strike and luster, I always usually seen them as slicks lol. Great addition

Doug S.

Level 4

Austin, Thanks for the comments. I only have one other since I don't really collect them and its well worn to say the least. Seen quite a few but not like this .I jumped on this when I had the chance. Regards Doug

Well...I gotta say, you nailed it with this coin. While I have never been a big fan of the Obverse of the B. Half, the Reverse has always struck me as just "nice, pretty, awesome"? I have a few my grandfather left me, all well circulated and certainly none of them toned or as nice as this one. I was surprised that it was a New Orleans coin, many, although not all I've seen don't appear to be as well struck. Not sure why. Thank you for sharing such a sweet coin.

Doug S.

Level 4

Stumpy, Thanks. I agree the reverse is the best part of Barbers. The strike and subtle toning are what got me. As you mention most O struck Barbers are pretty weak but his one jumps out. Im no expert at all, I don't collect them, but from what I have read the workmanship was not quite up to snuff at the O mint at times. They made adjustments to the official tolerances such that the coins would run through the press without problems that would stop the run. Certainly would make the dies last longer I would assume. I also read recently that interest is picking back up in all three Barber series. Got lucky with this one! Regards Doug

Thats a nice coin! Great luster and eye appeal! About the picture quality, I have that problem too. I think its something to do with the ANA website. Nothing to bad.

Barber's dime, quarter, and half-dollar are beginning to grow on me. Especially since I own MS-64's of each coin in my typeset. Clearly, your Barber half does not disappoint either!

Doug S.

Level 4

Gary, I kinda feel the same way when I saw this one it kinda changed the way I think about them. I only have one other Barber half in low grade raw and was never too interested. I have a low grade dime and quarter in raw and that's it. I read recently that interest is beginning to pick back up in all three series. Regards Doug

Level 5

Perhaps one of the best New Orleans struck Barber's I've seen. Superb example and worth a premium. While I have the complete run of dimes, the halves I held off on as my uncle is most likely to will me his collection. None of which are as good as that one though. Congratulations on being the next caretaker.
