Yellow and brown seal money made during WWII
During world War 2 the United States government made special banknotes of 1,5,10, and 20 dollar denominations with a brown seal for Hawaii and for Northern Africa they made 1 , 5 , and 10 dollars with a yellow seal so that if the enemy captured those places and started to counterfeit the money to ruin the economy they could just demonetize them. In those places they could only use the special seal currency unless they had a license to use regular cash. The values for the Hawaii notes can be anywhere from around $20 to several thousand and the north African ones can be bought for around $40 to several thousand dollars.

Now I like currency with history. Thanks for that. I have some beat up currency from Hawaii that look like they lost the war. I would not share that quality bill with you guys. Thanks for a great blog

Nice blog. I am a Yellow Seal kind of guy. A lot of folks only know about the brown seal Hawaii series. It doesn't hurt that Hawaii is written on the back of those. They make a nice addition to my MPC's and POW chits. Also goes with the Philippian JIM money and emergency money. Thanks.

It is so interesting that we were concerned that Hawaii would be invaded or that U.S. troops would be routed in North Africa. I guess that's called hedging your bet. Thanks for sharing your research, I have a Hawaii Bill but have never picked up a North Africa bill.
