I remember as a kid, my dad flew a 48 star flag, after 1958. Who was going to count the stars..

Hmm, interesting. I know of Stonewall Jackson, not this guy. Sounds like someone to google in my free time!

That was a great movie. I think it was Kirk throwing hand grenades out of an old.plane. You brought back a great memory to me. Thank you. And you couldn't ask for a better cast! I enjoyed this very much. He was also an American who helped Israel gain there independence.. He was born in 1901 and died in 1948.

For those who may wish to know more about Mickey Marcus, the book "Cast a Giant Shadow" is an excellent depiction. If you want a more glamorized, i.e., Hollywood, version, there is the 1966 movie of the same name. It stars, Kirk Douglas backed by Angie Dickinson, Senta Berger, Topol, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Yul Brynner and Michael Douglas. It is the story of a very self-sacrificing American Army Officer who after World War II went to the Middle East and fought and led Israeli troops in the fight up to the establishment of the Nation of Israel and the setting of the first borders of the State. Unfortunately, he, like Stonewall Jackson, was the victim of friendly fire.
