Proposal for a New Half Dollar Design

| I. R. Bama

I know my buddy Skyblue note is going to be shooting daggers at me for this one! Sorry, Charlie.....

I would like to see a new half dollar featuring past Vice Presidents. This would be a series featuring 49 vice presidents on the obverse.  In keeping with the theme of the Kennedy half dollar reverse design, I would offer the Vice President of the United State's seal.

Personally I think these would be more attractive coins than the golden presidential dollars are and I would like to see that happen.

After the run of this series, then perhaps we could return to dear old JFK. What do you think?

I’m not a fan of this idea, as we have had some lame duck Vice President’s, who’s lack of accomplishments are more pronounced than their actual accomplishments. I’m not against a redesigned half dollar, as I’m also a fan of returning half-dollars to circulation. With that, I’m not sure if I’d go with a new motif of JFK, a different President altogether, or a more classical design.

Bama, I love the idea of replacing the Kennedy Half but I do not want to see another series of ugly old men (and Kamala) gracing any of our nation's coinage. Instead I propose we feature wildlife from each state. Each State has its State Animal, Bird, Plant, etc. Feature them with an appropriate design on the reverse celebrating our 250th Birthday. I know, it's only 2022 but 2026 is coming and these new Half Dollars could start in 2023 and run for the next ten years. I would actually collect that series, I never liked the Presidential Dollars at all and the Innovation Dollars leave me cold (love Sacagawea though) but I would want a set of State wildlife, for sure. Sorry Charlie, I know you love your Kennedys.

Really good alternative ideas to mine. Actually I would like to see state seal quarters, but that's an idea so far down the road that I'd never live to see it

I think they should be done in profile. That always looks better to me but not quite sure why

This is a nice idea, we should get all of the dead Vice Presidents on half dollars. Just like all the dead presidents are on the dollars. Thanks for sharing your idea!

I would like to see these in circulation, but if they just make them overinflated prices, why bother? Nice idea though.

Certainly they should circulate. Especially when they get rid of the cent

Put Lady Liberty back on the coins. Old and new variations.

Now that's an idea. And these would circulate again if only the mint would release them to the Reserve and promote them heavily in the process.

Actually, I now see that the only difference between the presidential seal and the VP's seal are the wording are different, but the Eagle emblem is the same. So that would make for a very nice coin

At least they would shed some historical light on the v.p.s. I think they would be more interesting than others we got going

The Kennedy family is still one of the most powerful families in America. Its the fifth most collected coin. I don't see it leaving for awhile . The silver proof is a beautiful coin they started making them in the 1990's I think. So four half dollars a year two in the uncirculated set one in the proof set and the silver in the silver proof set.. You can by bags or two rolls.

Interesting idea. I guess its possible... For me, not really interested in any of the "Pres" coins. Thanks Bama!

I wasn't that big on the prezzies. However, I find the innovation dollars and the Native American gold dollars a lot more interesting. This idea? Na, half-dollars don't circulate, and I don't see a scenario where they will either. If it's just for collectors, I say stick with what we got.

Good proposal . Hope it gets approved.

I don't know. It would definitely be better than the presidential "gold" dollars. If these would be put into circulation I am all for it. It would be nice to see anything new from the mint in circulation. Good thinking. I think you have turned my opinion around. Thanks.
