Working On a Mystery Without Any Clues: Eisenhower Medals?

Medals | I. R. Bama

So I'm doing my night moves on these two tokens that I recently got from my Mother. I get tons of Kennedy Halfs and other interesting coins and tokens from her because she is elderly, and everybody wants to dun her for money. But my Mom is sharp and I don't worry about her getting taken.

Recently she gave me these two medals but was unable to give me the backstory on them, so I have no idea where they came from, who minted them and what the reason for their creation was. Enquiring minds want to know!

Obviously, they have the medal alignment with the obverse and reverse. They weigh 27 grams and 1 and a half inches in diameter and the edge measures 1/8th of an inch. The edge is smooth, but you can see that the obverse and reverse were electroplated with silver. The middle appears to be perhaps a manganese alloy giving the appearance of a clad coin.

This medal is a beauty with a frosted cameo portrait of Eisenhower on the obverse. As for the reverse, the pattern engraved into the 5 stars of the General are really something to behold under the loupe.

All in all, a delightful addition to my collection. But I got to learn the backstory. I've looked around the internet to no avail to date. Maybe one of you has the FYI on these dope medals.

Have you tried that program where you take a picture of the coin and it tells you about it? Good luck. Way up firm and high.

Guessing these were souvenirs for sale from gift shops at one time? Gettysburg area has shops that sell tokens and medals made for tourists.

Funny how the night moves......oh, sorry, enjoying a moment there. Nice tokens, have not seen those before. Those are the sort with a value far beyond the monetary.

Eisenhower's political career was supported by many both US Army Friends and civilian institutions. I suggest you run a little research on his pre-White House time. Quite a few well done tokens were minted for political party purposes... Nonetheless, congrats on such a great acquisition.
