I have recently returned to collecting Conder Tokens. áMy interest sometime back was in Middlesex tokens--there are a lot of them--but I have now expanded my area. áTwo very interesting tokens are Suffolk 37, which features the unusual bathing machines, and Oxfordshire 1, which has a magnificent sun on the reverse.
Those seeking to broaden their collecting interests, often at a bargain price, consider Conder tokens. áNot only are these tokens fascinating representations of art and history, they provide a quick glimpse into 18th century England. The club is the Condor Tokens Collector's Club, which has a wonderful journal, and there are many absorbing books. áI am currently reading George Selgin's book "Good Money: Birmingham Button Makers, the Royal Mint, and the Beginnings of Modern Coinage, 1775-1821." This work offers great insights into the state of the economy, the scarcity of small change and the rise and expansion of the so-called Conder tokens.
