The Camp David Peace Dollar

| It's Mokie

The Camp David Accords were two political agreements signed by Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin on 17 September 1978, following secret negotiations at Camp David under the watchful eye of President Jimmy Carter. The two agreements were signed at the White House and were witnessed by President Carter. The first agreement covered the middle east in general and included provisions for the creation of a Palestinian State, it was not accepted by the Palestinians and was condemned by the United Nations, undoubtedly because the Palestinians were not included in the negotians.  The second agreement included only Israel and Egypt and led to a1979 treaty between the two countries.  This included an exchange of Embassies, trade agreements, cultural exchanges, and ultimately peace.   Despite many political changes since 1978, the agreement still holds true.  Mr. Begin and Mr. Sadat ultimately shared the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts on behalf of their counties.

Wrapping it all Up!!

| It's Mokie

I did a talk at the PAN show called "Numismatics for Beginners" and one benefit I emphasized was the wonderful friendships that can arise just by being in this hobby.  I would like to thank my friends Rob Lasich, Rob Throckmorton, Dick Gaetano (all from PAN), and Dave Burdis (South Hills Coin Club) for volunteering their time at the KidZone table or during the auction. They really stepped up for our YNs. I would especially like to thank our own blog buddy GOLFER (Pat B.) for going all out with his wonderful Halloween themed goodie bags, giant treasure chest of "PAN" labeled coins, thousands of wheat cents, and just being there as my right hand on Thursday and all-day Saturday.  Golfer is a Rock Star!!!  The great thing is that he enjoyed the experience so much that Golfer looks to be a fixture at our future shows.

October PAN Show Is Nigh

| It's Mokie

I am so thrilled October has come, Autumn is my favorite season and this October has proven to be perfect here in the Pittsburgh PA area.  One of the things I am looking forward to is the upcoming Pennsylvania Association of Numismatists (PAN) Fall show in Lovely Monroeville PA.  I have decided to help facilitate the KidZone again so will be scrambling all day Saturday (20 October) making sure all goes smoothly for the YNs that visit our table.  The Auction Lots are set, the T-Shirts and Coin Folders are on the way and it is going to be a glorious day.  I will also be providing a presentation for newbies at 1 PM, kind of a Numismatics for Dummies without the stigma.  I have presented it already to two groups of experienced collectors so I can get their feedback and make it truly useful.  So without further ado, here are 10 reasons you NEED to visit the PAN Fall Show (18-20 October) this year.
