over the past few years there have been a number of Canadian cents popping up in the US coin rolls and i have managed to acquire quite a few of them. i didn't really have any use for them so i just threw them all into a coin tube and just kept adding to them every time i got one. i came to the point where it was just taking up too much space so yesterday i got myself a Canadian Whitman small cent folder and started emptying my collection into it. while doing this i learned a lot of information about the cent that i never noticed before like the different obverses (no crown, Tiara, Diadem) and even more surprising that starting in 2004 there was also a variety minted with steel. these steel cents can be determined by a magnet and there are also 2 mint marks that can be found on these coins. one is a "P" (not Philadelphia ) but copper-plated steel, and the other is the RCM mint mark which is a small crown. these mint marks can be found under the head on the obverse. over all i have learned a lot and started becoming a little interested and my uncle lives in Canada and i asked him if he has any loose Canadian cents for me to look through. it is a shame that the mint stopped the series but it is still very interesting to look into.
