Dateless Nickels

Coins-United States | Conan Barbarian

Buffalo nickels are one of the most iconic coins of america and there are many of these nickels that have lost their dates through circulation and build up of muck in that area. i also know that cleaning a coin devalues the coin significantly but since these nickels are dateless they don't hold any value anyway so i am wondering what is the best way to restore the date. i heard vinegar works well but you need time (like a few days) and there is nic-a-date but i have seen some of those coins and it leaves a discolored spot in the area that you place the substance. what method do you guys use?

large scale coins

| Conan Barbarian

i have two large scale coins that show every detail of a specific coin (i don't know if there is a special name for them but they are like the prototype design for the coins). in the pictures i compared them to the actual coin so that the size of the objects are compared. The nickel large design is very worn but the half dollar large design i purchased at the mint a few years back when i went on the tour. the designs blow up the coin so that you can see every detail of it with a naked eye and it is not necessary to use a magnification. the designs are not made out of the same metal but they are nice to have and they show everything, including all the small details of the coin (at least the half dollar does). nice to have on display and learn about the coins.
