Society for United States Commemorative Coins

Does anyone know the status of this once very active organization made up of collectors and dealers with wonderful knowledge of the series?

Unfortunately the Society disbanded a few years

ago.  They had difficulty getting articles for the excellent

newsletter and also officers.  If you see any of their old newsletters

that were 8.5 x 11 with a beige cover and typically 32- 44 pages,

they are well worth acquiring.  There are excellent articles especially

in the earlier issues.  I have attached an image of a sample cover.

Also, among the newer books, Whitman's Red Book Guide on United States

Commemorative Coins by Q. David Bowers and The Encyclopedia of the

Commemorative Coins of the United States by Anthony J. Swiatek are

comprehensive references.

This group disbanded a few years back and donated their remaining funds to the ANA to endow a commemorative exhibit award until the funds are depleted. Direct any questions about commemoratives to guru Anthony Swiatek.

Did any commemorative group ever emerge

Thanks for the responses... I was a member for a few years, and contributed a few articles to The Commemorative Trail, a fine publication. That, and their meetings at the Long Beach shows are a highlight of my numismatic experiences.

As the most recent 1st Place winner in Class 20 exhibiting at the recently concluded ANA World's Fair of Money, I guess that makes me the most recent winner of the Society for United States Commemorative Coins  Award, as listed by ANA Chief Judge Joe Bolling last Friday. I am sorry to hear they are defunct. I may soon enough be joining them eh?
