Cent from W with Proof set

Ok I wrote an article on the new historic set and the packaging and the brown cent the West Point Cent. I just learned that over 90% are grading PF 69 to PF 63. That's right. I called the mint Who had received many calls. The cent was put in plastic in an open envelope. Of course they came out and were scratched. Mine was a disgrace. They called Texas to see if they had time to change the packaging for the next two. They advised to leave them in the bag. This would of been a great moment for the mint but they blew it big time. You will not get three 70's unless you buy the first one for a.few.hundred dollars and they put them in the lens.. A seller of large quantity of coins saying leave them in the cheep packaging. What do you think. Pat

I got mine and thankfully it was not scratched, but the I was outraged by the packaging. A paper envelope with a small baggie and not even protected inside a box like the regular set just lying on the bottom of the box. I am seeing that they are going for 130 plus on Ebay. When will the mint get it right?

Well coin world came out with there most talked about subject for the week. Again it's this cent. There blaming the machines. That's right to much pressure causing the brown marks causing the low grades and yes the packaging. Kids are out again thanks to the inept work at the mint. Do they make these after happy hour? These are just stupid mistakes. Packing these coins are easy. Everyone could of came up with a safe way. And the guy that put the hub on wrong should be fired. These are avoidable . Every mint in the world don't make mistakes like this. We have had over a hundred years to get this right and they cant. Look at the 91 who bought them for a cent yes they made a mistake in the posting. They found there mistake yes another and we have to pay for it. If they don't change the packaging forget a set of three. Pat

I do not know when the Mint is going to start fixing things. The collector's voices are still not heard. I thought the CCAC would have more of a say in things, but I guess not in quality control. I definitely will not be purchasing any more out this set of three.

They could have made a special 6 coin holder in the plastic. Put it next to the half dollar, cent, nickel, dollar, and dime. The Mint continues to show they are moving more towards making as much money as possible with little to no care about collectors. If only our voices could be heard.

That would of made to munch sends making a lens with another spot for the cent. But most were destroyed with the brown marks any way.

The problem with including the W cent with the main proof set is that some people ONLY want the W cent.  What they should have done is spent an extra dollar and put it in a hard plastic case alone, much like the 2018 Innovation Dollar.

Again your.absolutely right. But as you said before the new director is getting rid of the dead wood and hopefully things will change. It's very simple what you suggested and could of saved allot of problems. Thanks Pat
