Ferry Boards Used At Trenton During Revolutionary War

I questioned the image of G. Washington standing in a boat holding his sword..It bothered me so I did some research. Found the answer. In colonial times they used small ferry to cross water. This is what they used to get to Trenton and change the way the war was going. Horses cannons everything was put on these. So the Quarter is on the money so to speak! See pictures below!

Great history lesson, fact through research. People for generations have assumed it was the romanticized image as seen in the 1851 Emanuel Leutze painting. By the way Mike, the painting is still in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I had the privilege of seeing it several years back.
