An Interesting Check

Longstrider recently posted a blog about a check he had purchased that was written for payroll from a bank in Bisbee AZ.  It reminded me of a check I have had for many years written on the Bank of Philadelphia.  The check is dated 5 July 1876 and is in the amount of $35.50.  The check writer promises to pay the $35.50 two months after the date of the check.  Payee appears to be a Mr. Robert Strauss and the Payor appears to be F.W. Blaisdele (?).   Various endorsements on the back of the check show the signature of Robert Strauss then a bank official named Baker in Boston and finally a bank official in Philadelphia.

I originally purchased this because of the interesting date and the fact that Boston and Philadelphia banks were involved.  I also love the young girl with Lighthouse in the  vignette.

That is a beautiful vignette. Wonder what that check could buy?

Looks like.a new area to look into the two threads should bring out someone I hope.

That is a beauty. I think there are more endorsements on that on than mine.
