A fun slab

A while ago, I got this NGC slab, but it is a advertisement. I assume this company commissioned NGC to make them some of these, but I am not really sure what it is called. I have been referencing it as an "ad slab" like a sample slab but with an advertisement in it rather than the coin data.  I was wondering if anybody knew the real name for these or knew if they were a thing a lot of companies do. It just was very interesting to me, not to mention a great marketing technique for the company.

I would ask NGC when there back it has there letters they have to know or may be you stumbled on a scam.. Free adds on NGC no way. Thats not right. I check there news i didnt see anything on this.

i would crack inside the slab to see whats going on. its free, so i wouldn't mind cracking inside it and seeing if its real or not. i would thing the person who gave you it is an advertiser for that company.

Keep it as is. That is what I would do. Research and find out what exactly it is. Some people collect slab holders. They collect different holders with or without coins, and some slab holder collector might love this one.

I am sure they do promotional slabs on occasion.  I would just enjoy it and keep it as an interesting variation on a normal slab.  You might also consider visiting the NGC Board and posting a question about it on the Ask NGC secton.  The NGC Boards can be found here, and membership is free at their lowest level.

Sort of related to this subject, what is the consensus on cracking out a slabbed coin to place it in an album? I am working on a type set album and have an ANACS graded seated quarter I am tempted to remove from its holder. The coin's value is about $200. Any thoughts?

I have cracked slabs and put coins in albums, so I see nothing wrong with that.  I would keep the slab label though, especially for a coin worth 200.

I don't think I would crack it. This kind of reminds me of the sample slabs that both PCGS and NGC have handed out. In fact, slabs like these have become a new category of collecting in and of themselves. People who collect sample slabs try to get a sample of every generation of holder. Some sample slabs are quite scarce and expensive. I got one once of a Lincoln Cent from PCGS at a PCGS luncheon at the ANA show.

People collect slabs. Especially sample slabs. I would not crack it open.

Were talking Numismatics here this is not a bus with adds on it. We will bring the hobby to a new low.. They get more money we get nothing. Thats my opinion.
