ANA Library Archive
The American Numismatic Association Dwight N. Manley Library contains many archives in addition to the typical published research materials. The focus of the archives are ANA history and events, including: correspondence regarding the organization; materials such as membership cards and awards; and convention programs, photographs, and ephemera. The archives also contain first-hand accounts of numismatic events, correspondence, personal and organizational reports, and legal documents. Personal archives donated as a single holding to the ANA Library include art work by significant engravers, mint employees, and coin designers.
The Library staff is currently working to organize and catalog the items in this collection. Descriptions of archive items will be included in the ANA Library Catalog. This will allow you to search the archives in the same way that you search the books and auction catalogs in our collection. You can also browse the archives from the Advanced Search page using the Category directory. Information on these searching options are described more fully in this informational video. A number of these items have links to the Internet Archive (archive.org) where you can view and download a PDF of the item. You can also browse the growing ANA Library Collection directly on the Internet Archive. For more information about how to search the ANA Library Archives, please see the video below.
If you would like scans of an archive for personal or research use, please contact the ANA Library staff by email or phone as indicated above. We can prioritize requests, depending on staff time, and provide a link to the document on the Internet Archive once the scan is completed. More information regarding research requests is available on our website.
If you would like scans of an archive for use in published research, please complete the following paperwork and email a copy to the ANA Library staff. We will review your request and contact you regarding cost and our ability to complete the request.
If you would like to donate your archives to the ANA Library, please contact the ANA Library staff and complete the paperwork below. The staff will determine if your archives will fit with the educational mission of the ANA and be consistent with our archival holdings. Due to space to store archives and staff time, we are unable to accept all archives. If we cannot accept your materials, we will work to direct you to another institution that will value your materials and make them accessible to researchers. Any work on your side to organize the archives is appreciated and will help the ANA Library Staff to better catalog and present the information to researchers.
Many of the items are not yet cataloged and all items in the ANA Archives are non-circulating. If you are interested in accessing materials from this collection, please contact the ANA Library staff by email at library@money.org or by phone at 719-482-9821. Provide a detailed description of the item you would like to access and the catalog call number if it is in the ANA Library Catalog. The ANA Library staff is prepared to work with researchers to schedule in person visits to the Dwight N. Manley Library to view archive materials. Please note that scheduling a visit must be done at least one month in advance of your planned visit to ensure that staff is available to assist with your request. ANA Library staff may be unavailable during certain ANA events, including the National Money Show® and World’s Fair of Money®.
