Jeanne Stevens-Sollman was born in Providence, RI, and attended the Rhode Island School of Design. She relocated to Bellefonte PA to pursue a MFA at the Pennsylvania State University. There she came into contact with John Cook, where she was exposed to relief medals mostly to enhance her work in pottery and clay figures. Her work often includes animals or nature. She organized three weeklong workshops for sculptors and has been the United States delegate to the international medallic art organization, FIDEM. She has designed some special awards for Penn State as well as an annual medal for Brookgreen Gardens and most recently, the Medal Collectors of America. She was awarded the Saltus Award for excellence in medallic sculpture by the American Numismatic Society in 1999. Most recently she won the 2021 American Medal of the Year Award for her medal in honor of George Floyd, which can be seen on the Civil Rights case in this exhibit.
