PURPOSE

The highest honor conferred by the ANA, the Chester L. Krause Distinguished Service Award is given in recognition of numerous years of outstanding, dedicated service to numismatics.

The nominee should be an individual who has rendered numerous years of outstanding service to the ANA as well as the field of numismatics. The nominee should be a former Medal of Merit and Glenn Smedley Memorial Award recipient. This award is limited to members of the ANA.

PURPOSE

This award is presented to an individual, family, firm or judicial entity that has made outstanding contributions to organized numismatics

CRITERIA

The nominee should be an individual, family, firm or judicial entity that has achieved extraordinary accomplishments in the field of numismatics.  The nominee should have a strong record of professional involvement in the industry. This award is not limited to members of the ANA.

PURPOSE

The Elvira Clain-Stefanelli Memorial Award for Achievement in Numismatics was established and first given in 2013 to honor women who have made significant contributions to numismatics. These contributions, whether in research, leadership or mentor-ship, must have made a lasting impact on the numismatic community and demonstrated a lifelong commitment to the betterment of numismatics.

CRITERIA

The award will be presented to one individual annually; institutions or organizations are not eligible.

Candidates must be living, but need not be members of the ANA or currently engaged in numismatics.

Numismatist of the Year Award, first presented in 1995, was established to recognize individuals within the numismatic community who have demonstrated long-term leadership in the field and to the Association.

Nominees must be ANA members who have clearly demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of numismatics spanning a career of at least 20 years.  Their accomplishments should have significant impact in the numismatic community.

The award is named in honor of Harry J. Forman, a Philadelphia coin dealer, author and ANA Life Member who died in March 2008. Together with partner Ruth Bauer, he ran the firm of Forman and Bauer, Inc., a respected mail-order coin business. Forman was active in increasing ANA membership and encouraging donations to the Money Museum, and became the Association's first "grand patron" in 1982. He received the ANA's Glenn Smedley Memorial Award in 1998, the Numismatist of the Year Award in 2000 and the Association's highest honor, the Farran Zerbe Memorial Award, in 2001.

PURPOSE

Presented annually, the award honors a professional numismatist who shows uncommon dedication to strengthening the hobby and the ANA, and displays exemplary ethical standards as a numismatic dealer.

CRITERIA

The following are the criteria for Harry J. Forman Dealer of the Year Award nominees:

• An ANA member in good standing

• A full-time dealer for a minimum of 20 years

• A firm commitment to the betterment of the numismatic hobby and ANA, including educational presentations, support for ANA initiatives, articles, etc.

• A commitment to assist in future selection of all Harry J. Forman Dealer of the Year Award honorees for 5 years

The Adna G. Wilde Jr. Award for Excellence is named in honor of Lt. Col. (Ret.) and ANA Past President Adna G. Wilde Jr. Wilde provided leadership for the Association for 40 years, serving as executive director, governor, vice president, president, treasurer and parliamentarian. He received the Farran Zerbe Award in 1985, the Medal of Merit in 1991, the Numismatist of the Year Award in 2005 and Presidential Awards in 1994, 1998 and 2008. He was elected to the ANA Numismatic Hall of Fame in 2002. Wilde passed away in 2008.

A respected numismatist, Wilde has published definitive research on Lesher dollars and counterstamped Stone Mountain commemorative half dollars. Before his distinguished service with the ANA, he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, and was wounded in combat in Italy during World War II.

PURPOSE

The award honors an ANA member who dedicates his or her time and resources to strengthen the hobby and further the educational mission of the ANA, and sets an example for others to follow.

The nominee should be an ANA member who has demonstrated several years of enthusiastic service in volunteering time, expertise and/or resources that contributes to the growth and success of the ANA.

The ANA recognizes that without strong adult leaders and mentors, young people will not be able to grow in and learn to enjoy the wonderful hobby of coin collecting. This award is presented to an individual who has devoted his/her efforts to recruiting young numismatists new to the hobby, and aiding the development of intermediate to advanced YNs.

CRITERIA

Nominees for this award will be judged on the following: 

1. Advisor to a Junior Coin Club.
2. Numismatic Tours for Juniors — tour arranged by and/or conducted by an adult leader to coin shows, coin museums, educational forums, historic sites, and/or other educational tours.
3. Convention Programs for Juniors — programs other than guided tours conducted and/or arranged by an adult leader for juniors to include educational programs, special exhibits, meals and refreshments, etc.
4. Numismatic talks to Juniors — to include presentations at coin clubs, schools and other junior groups such as the 4-H, Scouts, YMCA, etc.
5. Scout Merit Badge — as a Merit Badge Counselor, the number of scouts aided and the number of merit badges earned by those aided.
6. Other Junior Aid Activities — Non-numismatic. Consideration also will be given to non-numismatic junior activities by the adult leader. These would include Little League, Boy and/or Girl Scouts, Sunday School and so forth. 
7. Recruitment of juniors as ANA Junior members.
8. Recruitment of juniors to local coin club(s).
9. Articles written for the Junior Collector. Please list name of publication or include a copy of the article. Please list any assistance given to aiding junior writers.
10. Other — sponsoring awards, lobbying adult groups to aid juniors, etc.

PURPOSE

The ANA recognizes that the future of our hobby depends on the recruitment and education of young numismatists. The Young Numismatist of the Year award honors young collectors for outstanding contributions to the hobby and industry. Nominees should exhibit a positive attitude, strong communication skills, cooperation, dependability and avid interest in expanding their numismatic knowledge. This award is limited to members of the ANA under the age of 18.

Nominations should include a brief description of the accomplishments of the young collector during the year and the reasons why they should be considered for the award. Nominations should be received as early as possible as the nominees will be asked to submit an application for review.

CRITERIA

Nominees for this award will be evaluated in the following areas:

1. Numismatic exhibits. These exhibits include competitive and non-competitive entries for local, regional and national coin shows. Awards received will also be considered.
2. Presentations and articles. These activities include making numismatic presentations to coin collecting groups or the public. Articles include publishing numismatic papers in national, regional or local club magazines, newsletters, or bulletins; electronic or print media are acceptable.
3. Numismatic research. This area includes new or updated numismatic research and findings that have not been published.
4. Volunteer service. These activities include volunteering time to assist with the numismatic hobby at the local, regional or national level.

PURPOSE

The Outstanding District Representative award is designed to recognize the District Representative who most fully promotes coin collecting, coin clubs, and the American Numismatic Association.

CRITERIA

The nominee should be involved in the following categories: contributions to the hobby, promotion of the ANA, participation in National Coin Week, recruitment of new members, involvement in club activities, local, regional, and national committees. This award is limited to members of the ANA.
