Summer Seminar Scholarships Available For Talented Young Numismatists

The American Numismatic Association is seeking applications from gifted Young Numismatists (YNs), ages 13 to 22, for scholarships to attend 2011 Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs. Dates for the two one-week sessions are June 25-July 1 and July 2-8.

Summer Seminar features a lineup of classes to meet virtually every collector’s needs, including ancients, paper money, counterfeit detection, grading, the Civil War, digital photography, Lincoln cents, hobo nickels, medals, tokens, and more. Students meet and learn from the hobby’s most prominent scholars, rising young stars and successful business leaders.

“The generosity of distinguished members and organizations has made it possible for us to award an increased number of Summer Seminar scholarships,” said ANA Executive Director Larry Shepherd. “Young people who are passionate about the hobby are encouraged to apply for a special experience this summer.”

Scholarship recipients will attend one weeklong class or two, 2-day classes of their choice, stay in a Colorado College dormitory with counselor supervision, and participate in seminar programs and events. Summer Seminar is celebrating its 43rd year in 2011, and the ANA has been awarding scholarships to YNs since 1973.

YN scholarship applications are available at (select “Summer Seminar” from the “Numismatic Events” drop-down menu) or by contacting the ANA education department at 719-482-9849 or Applications are due Jan. 18. Scholarships will be awarded in March, and preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate dedication to the hobby.
