Unlock the Full YN Experience:
Create a Safe Email for Your Child
Why We Encourage Unique Email Addresses for Young Numismatists
We know you want your child to enjoy the full Young Numismatist (YN) experience—special auctions, educational programs, and opportunities tailored just for them. To make that happen, each YN needs their own email address when they sign up for membership. This helps us:
- Keep parent and child memberships separate and accurate in our system
- Send YN-only emails (auctions, activities, learning opportunities) directly to your child’s inbox
- Protect your own ANA account information and preferences
At the same time, we fully understand the hesitation many parents feel about creating email accounts for children. This page is here to explain why it’s helpful, how you stay in control, and step-by-step options for setting up a safe, supervised email address for your YN.
We Understand Your Concerns
If you’re thinking:
- “I’m not comfortable turning my child loose with email,” or
- “What about spam, strangers, and privacy?” or
- “We already use my email for everything—this feels complicated.”
…you’re not alone. These are reasonable, responsible questions.
The good news: modern tools from providers like Google and Microsoft are built specifically with families in mind. They allow you to:
- Create child accounts that you supervise
- Set content filters and time limits
- Control who your child can communicate with
- Review activity and change settings at any time
In other words, you remain firmly in the driver’s seat.
How Child Email Accounts Help Protect Both You and Your Child
Creating a separate email for your YN:
- Keeps your personal ANA membership details fully separate
- Ensures YN emails (auctions, programs, contests, scholarships) go to the person who needs them most—your child
- Allows us to tailor content appropriately, while still recognizing you as the parent/guardian
- Prevents confusion when a parent already has an ANA membership under the same email
You’ll still be listed as the parent/guardian on the account, and we encourage you to remain involved in all YN-related communications.

Privacy and Safety
Privacy & Safety for Child Email Accounts
While no platform is perfect, both Google and Microsoft offer dedicated tools and policies focused on children’s online safety and privacy:
Parental controls & supervision
You decide which apps, websites, and services are appropriate, and you can change those settings anytime.
Age-appropriate settings
Child accounts are created with stricter default settings, which you can review and adjust together as your child grows.
Transparency
Both companies provide detailed information about what data is collected and how it’s used. Parents also have the ability to manage or delete accounts and associated data at any time. We always encourage you to review each provider’s current privacy and safety documentation and choose the settings that feel right for your family.
